flintoff is no where near as good as botham. Botham is in a differrent class to flintoff. My opinion is that flintoff is as good as a batsman as someone like the indian batsman kaif, and as good as a bowler as someone like the austrailan kasprowich, Flintoff is not that good, hes plays rubbish most of the time, and only plays good against teams that are not in form, i.e. australia, west inides. Botham was much better than flintoff, he played well against any teams, any time.

He does excite the crowd though and he seems to perform in the big games!

I have to give him some credit and i still think that he has time to prove himself - comparisons to Botham perhaps when he has completed and illustrius career!

As for me Botham was an enigma. An flintoff is getting better so may become a star one can remember. But we should never compare players each has thier own style. Cool Cool

How can you say Freddy is an average player, he is our best bowler, and is a good batsmen, im not sure but i think his average is 35? Thats not bad going as an average of 40 in test cricket is considered very good!

Flintoff average, Evil or Very Mad

How can you compare Botham and flintoff. You cant compare players when they are playing with different team mates against different opposition.

all we can say is that they are both awesome players who were/are the best in their team

Well here's my view, for what it's worth.

Freddie is as good a batsman as Botham ever was - Beefy got 14 Test hundreds but Freddie already has 5 or 6 and may surpass him. But Botham in his first three or four years of test cricket was maybe the best bolwer in the world. He finished with 373 wickets in 102 tests. Flintoff should play 100 Tests and he might get 230-240 wickets but he made a much slower start - he was averaging less than two wickets a match for the first part of his career. He's getting better all the time.

I woudn't reallt compare their styles of play but they were both talisman for their country and gave their team a big boost when needed.

well, they both did something similar for their country, they both won the ashes for england. Garry Sobers says that flintoff is better and i would say he is better because he is young and can accomplish a lot more then botham. the other thing about being young is that he might deteriorate as he gets older and maybe his great form will go down. so maybe its a bit too early to judge flintoff just yet. lets see how he is in another 3 or 4 years. then we'll be able to judge him.

The big difference is that Flintoff has been a slow starter. he was first picked in 1998, before he was ready perhaps. It took him 4 years to get his first 100, 6 years to take his first 5-for, Botham had an explosive first 3 or 4 years but it was a slow decline after that.

Yea, that's true. Flintoff got off to a slow start but he's improving now and he's really doing a great job for England. Botham got off to a great start but when he was made captain of england he started deteriorating. And as his career came to a close he had gotton worse.

Totally agree!
Flintoff has turned himself from a slogger who can bowl medium pace half volleys into a match winning all rounder!
